Our Salado Eagles came up short in our home opener Friday night, falling to Troy 50–63.

Obviously, we were disappointed with the outcome, especially because of what this game meant to our players, our program, and our entire community. Opening our new stadium was a special moment, and we wanted nothing more than to celebrate that night with a victory.
As the head coach, I take full responsibility for our preparation—especially when it comes to special teams. I did not have our guys prepared well enough in that area, and that falls on me. Our players should not carry the blame for that loss.

What I am incredibly proud of, though, is the fight our kids showed.
Down at halftime, our guys could have easily folded. Instead, they came back out in the second half and battled. They fought, they believed, and they continued to compete when it would have been easy to quit. That kind of fight says a lot about the character of this football team.
There are a lot of teams that would not have come out of the locker room with that kind of determination. Our guys did.

Now, we have to build on it.
If we continue to play with that kind of fight, keep the faith in what we believe in, trust one another, and stay committed to finishing the race we have started, I truly believe this team will give ourselves a chance to compete to win every game we play.
The result Friday night was not what we wanted—but the fight we showed is something we can build on.

We will learn. We will improve. We will keep fighting. And we will keep believing.

Thank you to our incredible Salado community for showing up, supporting our kids, and making the opening of our new stadium such a special night.
