SALADO, TX
Salado softball defeated Belton Tuesday night in a game that came down to the wire. In a pitching/defense battle, the Lady Eagles held on to a lead late to improve to 7-2 on the year.
Senior pitcher Ally Schauer shut down the first three batters in order to start the game. The Lady Eagles would strike first in the bottom half of the innings thanks to a leadoff double by Ryley Litchfield, driven in on a fielder's choice.
Freshman Kendall Trautmann pitched three shutout innings in relief, striking out 3. Bats would go quiet until the 5th when Salado capitalized on a Belton error. Pinch runner Aubree Zammat swiped 2nd before being driven in on a single by senior Giselle Salazar.
Zammat entered the circle in the 6th inning and allowed just one hit. Schauer would again enter the game, this time with the tying run on first base. The Lady Tigers scratched one run across on a wild pitch before Schauer ended the game with her 4th strikeout of the night.
Salado improves to 7-2 and is headed to the Central Texas Turf War tournament this weekend. The Lady Eagles are back in action at home in district play vs Lampasas on March 4.
